The key was in capturing the spirit of “Civilization” in the decisions you make rather than attempting to recreate every aspect of the larger games you still choose which technologies to advance, where to build cities and which victory condition to pursue. There were some aspects of the larger versions that I definitely missed (for example, seeing the buildings I chose to construct and general ease of use when navigating the board), but those were small grievances. The answer, as it turns out, was “pretty well, actually.” With such in-depth strategic gameplay, my question was, “How well would this translate to a mobile game?” Through these choices you emerge as either a warlike despot, an enlightened diplomat or somewhere in between, giving the game untold replay value. As your civilization progresses through the turn-based rounds you must make choices regarding which technologies to pursue, which buildings to invest in and which military units to train. The overall franchise experience that players have come to expect from the “Civilization” series is pure strategy: choose your civilization and build it up throughout history, taking it from a small village to a thriving nation.
